Gakuru and Thinker

Gakuru shifted uncomfortably in his seat, as they arrived at the survival camp, near the devastated city. He had never really travelled before, but when he heard about the earthquake, he felt that he had to do something. He didn't really know how he could help, but he would do whatever he could.

He stepped out of the vehicle, and looked around at the destroyed buildings in the distance, and as he did, he noticed a young sracknai sitting by one of the tents, staring towards the city.

He began to head towards the sracknai, wondering what the little one was doing out of the tents so late at night. As he got closer, he could see that it was a girl, and that she had a stronger body then most of her age would.

He was about to take another step forward, but stopped himself, as his shy side suddenly took over. What was he doing? This girl wouldn't want anything to do with him. But as he was thinking this, she turned around, and looked at him.

"What do you want?" she asked, in an extremely bored voice. It startled Gakuru, but he managed to stutter out a reply, "I...I... Uh... Well I came...to help with the... earthquake...thing..." He managed to say. "But, um... how did you know I was.... There?"

"Duh! I heard you behind me..." she sighed, and turned back to face the city. Gakuru fidgeted nervously, and went and sat next to the young sracknai. She glanced at him quickly, but then looked away again.

"So... urrr...I'm Gakuru..... What's your name?" Gakuru finally asked, after sitting in silence for what was probably 5 minutes. What's wrong with me? he thought I'm scared of a little girl.... He twiddled his thumbs nervously.

"I'm just called Thinker," she said still sounding bored. Gakuru managed to build up his courage, to try and get this girl to talk to him properly.

"Why are you out here all alone?" he asked her kindly.

"My friends are away looking for food. They'll be back soon." She didn't really seem to want to talk, but Gakuru persisted, "What about your family?"

Thinker looked towards the floor, "I don't have any, I never knew them.....Fighter and Leader are my only family now..." She blinked a tear from her eye, and continued to stare at the floor.

"I never knew my parents either... I was just found as an egg," he sighed and rested his head on his knees, "life can be hard on your own..."

"Pft! Tell me about it!" Thinker said loudly, suddenly lifting up her head, "You never even know when your next meal will be..."

Gakuru grinned, "Well, seeing as I have no family, and you have no family, you know, you could always become my family..."

Thinker stared him straight in the eyes, "But... I... I couldn't leave the others...."

"Well, think about it. If you ever change your mind, I'll always be here for you," he said to her, and they both sat and stared at the dilapidated city, Thinker contemplating hard about what her future could be.
